Introduction
Connected systems
Statement's understanding of your business starts with the systems you connect - your accounting software, bank accounts, and any other data sources. These aren't just data feeds; they're the source Statement uses to build its picture of your chart of accounts, entities, and transaction history. Statement connects to the accounting and financial platforms you're already using, including:
- Accounting - Xero, QuickBooks
- Payments - Stripe, PayPal
- Banking - Open Banking–connected accounts, covering most major banks If you're using another common financial platform, it's worth checking with support rather than assuming it isn't supported - Statement's connector list covers the common financial tools most businesses already run on.
Selecting sources
Every application is built on top of one or more connected data sources - your accounting system, bank feed, or other connected platform. When you create an app, Statement selects likely sources automatically based on your prompt, and you can adjust which ones it pulls from. Statement uses your request and conversation context to determine the data source. You don’t need to choose a source manually every time: naming it in your prompt-such as “Build a revenue app using Stripe”-makes the choice explicit. For follow-up questions, Statement can continue using the source already established in that conversation. If several connected services could answer the request and the choice is unclear, it asks you to select the relevant service before continuing. You can direct the choice by naming a different connected source in your next request. For uploaded data, select or attach the relevant files so Statement knows which ones to use. Apps installed from the App Store have predefined source requirements, shown in their details. You’ll need those services connected to refresh the app with your data.
